A Thanksgiving Cocktail: Blood Orange Bourbon With Thyme Infused Simple Syrup
I’ve been living for the weekends more than ever lately. Gosh, I feel like I’ve spouted out those exact words before. Seriously though, life has been hectic. Like very, very hectic. If you follow me on Instagram, then you know Chris and I got a puppy! Her name is Kona and she is the most beautiful little golden girl! But my, oh my is she a handful and a half! Add caring for (and training) her to a full-time (paid) job that has been especially demanding due to the holiday season and a brand new store having just opened. Oh, and of course, yours truly being the *only* digital marketing manager for the entire California grocery store chain (shout out to the wonderful Bristol Farms). So yeah... you’ve got a girl who’s just about losing her (GD) mind.
It certainly doesn’t help that I’m a certified neat freak and also demand a workout to stay (somewhat) sane just about every day of the week.
Something's gotta give alright. But there's nothing to give. So I’ll keep pushing through and living for the weekends - when at least the “9-5” only interrupts my life for an hour or two.
I hate to admit it - but alcohol helps (in addition to the gym and a few extra z’s, of course!). A cocktail or heavy pour of wine is usually all that’s on my mind come 6PM, Friday.
And while a glass of wine is often the easy and foolproof poison, sometimes I like to get a little crafty..and frisky.
So I concocted this creation last weekend. Perfect for the season with a base of bourbon and winter citrus, it’s got an extra kick of sweet from a Thyme infused simple syrup. Easy as hell to make with only 3 ingredients, it’s my new favorite libation for pure, ahem, unadulterated sipping on a weekend eve.
It’s the perfect start to your Thanksgiving dinner too. Loosen everyone up - I assure it’ll make for a better time.
The Fall/Winter outfit is a new favorite too. The plaid skirt is cutting it close (literally) - and might mean wearing some tights if I’m going to be around a certain crowd, but I’m just obsessed with the fit and the colors in it. The top was a perfect match too. I’m all about with bell sleeves (and have been long before they came back in) as well as the brownish, orange color. The shades are a new purchase - I was growing tired of the same ole, same ole (while classic) Ray-Bans and thought I should throw a fun pair in the mix.
Here’s the recipe:
1 1/2 shots Bourbon
Juice from 1/2 - 1 Blood Orange
1-2 tablespoons Thyme simple syrup
For the simple syrup:
½ cup water
½ cup sugar
1 bunch Thyme, plus some for garnish
Directions: In a small saucepan, bring sugar, water, and Thyme to a boil on the stovetop. Stir until sugar is dissolved. Remove from heat and let cool. Strain the syrup so all the Thyme leaves are removed. To a rocks glass, add 2 shots whiskey, 1-2 tablespoons simple syrup, and Blood Orange juice. Stir. Add ice cube and stir quickly. Add one more ice cube and garnish with Thyme sprig.
Here’s where you can find my ensemble. P.S. All the pieces are currently in stock!
